I signed up to work at a camp I’d never been to, surrounded by strangers. While I was excited, I also felt anxious and afraid of leaving the familiar behind. Would I fit in? Would I even be good at this? These thoughts filled my mind as I boarded the plane. However, once I arrived, my nerves faded as I met people from all over the world. We bonded quickly over shared experiences and late-night campfire stories. Over the next five weeks, our diverse team brought new perspectives, laughter, and a sense of belonging. The kids we worked with, coming from different cultures, were eager to make friends and explore. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and I found myself inspired by their courage to step out of their comfort zones, just as I had. By the end, I realized that the fear I initially felt was nothing compared to the incredible friendships and memories I had made. Now, whenever someone asks about my summer, I smile, thinking of all the stories I get to tell them about camp.
